About the Newton Abbot Charity Ball

The first Newton Abbot Town 'Ball' was held in 1993 as an initiative by Keith Stokes-Smith, Lord of Newton Abbot Borough Town.

The initial few years were sponsored by Keith and was then purely a social occasion. However, in 1997, Keith was joined by a number of others and the Organising Committee was formed. The event also became a fundraising event for chosen charities, with all proceeds from the night's raffles and auction going to the nominated organisation of the evening. It had then become the Newton Abbot Charity Town Ball.

Those of you who have attended the Ball in the past will know that our two main reasons for holding this annual event are for all Newtonians to have a great night out, and also to raise money for local charities, or local branches of charities. Over the 30 years we have been holding the ball (albeit with a 2-year hiatus due to a pandemic), we have raised over £60,000 for local charitable causes. Our sincere thanks go out to all of our past and present supporters, whether they be guests, sponsors, advertisers or donors of gifts and items for the raffles and auction, we couldn't have done it without you all.
